US PRESIDENT DONALD Trump told reporters he “loved” the reaction to his comments on Irish unity, as he made his way onto the golf course for the final day of the Irish Open this afternoon in Doonbeg, Co Clare.
The US President reiterated his support for a united Ireland today, telling reporters: “I love my comments.”
He later added that it was “one of the naturals of all time” to “put” Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland together.
He was also unfazed by the response from UK prime minister Andy Burnham.
Asked about Burnham saying there would be no Irish Unity until “majority public support for another referendum”, Trump said:
“Everybody says that, and then things happen.”
He continued: “By the way, I’ve spoken to him. I think he’s a very nice guy. He tends to be on the liberal side, unfortunately.
