NEW DELHI: General Dhiraj Seth Tuesday became the first officer from Armoured Corps after 1997 to become the Army chief. He takes over from General Upendra Dwivedi who retired after over four deca-des of service. The last Army chief to come from the Armoured Corps was Gen Shankar Roy Chowdhary. The change of command was marked with a ceremony at South Block Lawns he- re, where Gen Dwivedi was given a special send-off. Gen Seth’s key priorities will include accelerating force modernisation, triservice synergy, enhancing operational readiness along borders, and integrating advanced technologies like AI, drones, and cyber resilience into a self-reliant, future-ready armed force. Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in Dec 1986.
