Chamber of Commerce demands stoppage at Ramanathapuram for proposed Vande Bharat express

The Ramanathapuram Chamber of Commerce has petitioned the Union Railway Minister to include a stop at Ramanathapuram for the proposed Rameswaram-Chennai Vande Bharat Express. They argue the station is vital for the district's administrative, educational, and tourism needs.
Why it matters
Infrastructure connectivity is a critical driver for regional economic development and accessibility for rural and semi-urban populations.
Ramanathapuram Chamber of Commerce has appealed to Union Railway Minister for providing stoppage at Ramanathapuram railway station on both directions for the proposed Rameswaram-Chennai Egmore Vande Bharat Express.
In a petition, its president, B. Jagadeesan and general secretary, Gupta R. Govindarajan, said that Ramanathapuram was the district headquarters and served as an important administrative, commercial, educational, medical and transportation centre for large population of the district and adjoining areas.
With substantial passenger movement towards Chennai from Ramanathapuram for various needs, including employment and education, exclusion of Ramanathapuram railway station from the list of stoppages for the proposed Vande Bharat express would cause considerable inconvenience to large section of the travelling public, the chamber said.
Ramanathapuram railway station was the second most important railway station in the district after Rameswaram, both in terms of passenger utilisation and revenue contribution to the Indian Railway.
