Challenges in Telangana’s Indiramma houses construction, dilapidated housing societies in Hyderabad raised in Assembly
Telangana legislators discussed the rising costs of construction materials impacting the Indiramma housing scheme and the need to replace dilapidated housing societies. The government announced measures to subsidize cement and steel to assist beneficiaries.

Escalating cost of construction material which increases the expenditure for building an Indiramma House beyond the ₹5 lakh subsidy issued by Telangana government, difficulty in raising initial amount to lay foundation for the houses and the need for repairs or replacement of dilapidated housing societies in Hyderabad were brought up by MLAs on the fourth day of Telangana Legislative Assembly session.
Responding to them, Housing and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said on Thursday (September 10, 2026) that an MoU was recently signed to provide 50kg cement bags for ₹230 to people for construction, instead of market price of ₹ 310-320. Soon, a similar measure will be taken for steel.
While 4.5 lakh houses would be provided under the first phase of Indiramma, 2.5 lakh houses would be provided under the second phase with 2,000 in each constituency.
