CEC row: CJP’s Saurav Das to submit ‘intimation letter’ to Delhi Police ahead of Oct. 10 Jantar Mantar protest; security tightened
Saurav Das of the Cockroach Janta Party plans to notify Delhi Police of a protest scheduled for October 10 at Jantar Mantar. The demonstration aims to demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and the revocation of electoral roll revisions.
Why it matters
The protest reflects ongoing political tensions regarding the integrity of the Election Commission and the right to public assembly in India.
Security was stepped up outside the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi on Wednesday (October 7, 2026) ahead of the planned arrival of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) convenor Saurav Das, who is scheduled to submit an ‘intimation letter’ to the Delhi Police regarding the organisation’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10.
The CJP’s October 10 protest is aimed at pressing for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the revocation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls
Mr Das said he would reach the police station at 10 a.m. to inform the Delhi Police about the proposed demonstration. “The Constitution of India allows us to peacefully assemble and the right to protest peacefully,” he said in a post on X.
