Why it matters
Calls for the resignation of high-ranking election officials highlight ongoing political tensions and debates over the integrity of electoral processes in India.
Congress Working Committee member and former Pradesh Congress Committee president Gidugu Rudra Raju on Tuesday (October 13, 2026) said Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s constant fight against irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list had caught the attention of every section of society, which was evident from the “massive success” of the rally taken out to the Supreme Court on Monday.
Speaking to The Hindu over the telephone from New Delhi, Mr. Rudra Raju said the nexus between the NDA government and the Election Commission of India had been exposed with evidence and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had no option but to resign.
