CB-CID arrests DCB Inspector at Thanjavur

The Crime Branch CID on Friday arrested the Inspector of District Crime Branch, Thanjavur, Sugumaran in the wake of allegations that he had extorted money in a dispute between two partners of a private hospital in Thanjavur under the pretext of bringing out a settlement between them.
The investigating agency of Thanjavur unit conducted a search lasting several hours at the residence of the Inspector at Thanjavur and conducted detailed inquiries before arresting him at night, said police sources.
The Inspector, who reportedly complained of chest pain, was admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital, said police sources. The CB-CID took up the case based on a direction from the Director-General of Police and Head of the Police force in September acting on a complaint from one of the partners.
