Cauvery water row: Karnataka CM D.K. Shivakumar asks his Tamil Nadu counterpart Vijay to defer his visit to Bengaluru
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has requested Tamil Nadu counterpart Joseph Vijay to postpone a visit to Bengaluru due to ongoing tensions over the Cauvery water-sharing dispute. The request follows a recent directive from the Cauvery Water Management Authority requiring Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has appealed to his Tamil Nadu counterpart Joseph Vijay to postpone his visit to the State in view of the recent order by Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) regarding the river’s water regulation and the prevailing situation.
“The atmosphere is not right at this point of time,” Mr. Shivakumar said, addressing a press meet.
On Thursday (July 30, 2026), CWMA rejected Karnataka’s appeal against the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) order and directed it to release water at the rate of 3,500 cusecs daily to Tamil Nadu from July 29 for the next 15 days.
