Cauvery water from Karnataka’s Kabini reservoir reaches Hogenakkal in Tamil Nadu
Water released from Karnataka's Kabini reservoir has reached the Hogenakkal region in Tamil Nadu, ending a prolonged dry spell. Local authorities have implemented safety measures, including a ban on bathing and coracle operations, as water levels rise.

The inflow into Hogenakkal in Dharmapuri district recorded 18,000 cusecs on Tuesday (August 4, 2026) morning, after a long dry spell here in Dharmapuri. The waters released by Karnataka from Kabini reservoir finally reached Biligundulu reservoir in Krishnagiri district in the early hours of Tuesday registering an inflow of 1,000 cusecs.
The inflow steadily rose to 8,000 cusecs as of 7 a.m as recorded by the inter-State water gauging station of the Central Water Commission at Biligundulu. The waters of Cauvery reached Tamil Nadu two days after Karnakata opened its Kabini reservoir to release 5,000 cusecs, which was later increased to 10,000 cusecs and 25,000 cusecs by Saturday (August 1) night.
