Cattle rustlers torment Ikaba farmers

IKABA – Cattle theft is a major concern in the Ikaba area, with livestock allegedly being moved across the Zambezi River into Zambia using boats, Senior Induna Bernard Likando has said.

Ikaba, located within Kabbe South, is a large area bordering Zambia, which makes it easy for criminals to cross the border between the two countries via the Zambezi River.

Likando said cattle are stolen day and night, with the river making it difficult for affected farmers to recover their animals once they cross into Zambia.

“Here they steal like day and night,” Likando said.

He said stolen cattle are allegedly taken across the river using canoes or boats, with people holding onto the animals while crossing.

Likando said recovering cattle that have crossed into Zambia has become costly for farmers, as they are required to pay charges to have the animals brought back into Namibia.
