Catholic communicators should not measure their identity and success by social media followers, likes or popularity, but by their willingness to give themselves in service of the Gospel, Bishop Gerald Mamman Musa of Nigeria’s Katsina Diocese has said.
In his homily towards the conclusion of the August 3-8 SIGNIS World Congress in Kigali, Bishop Musa warned Catholic communicators against allowing the digital age to turn communication into a search for recognition and popularity.
“Our true identity is not found in self-promotion,” the Nigerian Catholic Bishop said during the morning Mass at St. Paul Chapel in Kigali on Friday, August 7.
He added, “In this age, we are looking for followers. We are looking for so many things.”
