Tigray, 05 October, 2026 / 8:02 pm (ACI Africa).
Members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia (CBCE) have appealed to all parties involved in renewed armed conflicts in Tigray, Afar, Amhara, Oromia and other parts of the country to end hostilities and pursue dialogue, forgiveness and reconciliation as the path toward lasting peace.
In a statement issued on October 1, the Catholic Bishops expressed sorrow over the continuing violence, warning that armed conflict only deepens divisions, destroys communities and property, and leaves behind hatred, resentment and vengeance that can endure for generations.
“Rather than resolving differences, war serves only to deepen divisions and multiplies suffering,” the Catholic Church leaders said, emphasizing that the greatest burden of violence falls on vulnerable people, including children, women, the elderly and the sick.
