Categorise English as native language in NEP 2020: Anglo Indian Federation
The Anglo-Indians Welfare Federation of India has requested the Union government to classify English as a native language under the National Education Policy 2020. They argue that labeling English as a foreign language violates student rights and threatens their cultural identity.

The Anglo-Indians Welfare Federation of India (AIWFI) has urged the Union government to categorise English as a native language.
In a letter to the Prime Minister and the Union Minister for Education, the federation said, “English is the medium of instruction in all subjects in most schools across the country along with an additional native language. The categorisation of English overnight as a foreign language amounts to violation of the students’ rights.”
The Union government has been implementing the three-language criteria since July 1 in the country from Class 9 onwards.
