Kannur police have registered a case against a Facebook user for circulating a fake post that impersonated MP K. Sudhakaran. The post falsely attributed inflammatory remarks about the Chief Minister to the politician.
Why it matters
The incident highlights the growing challenge of misinformation and digital impersonation in political discourse.
The Kannur Cyber Crime Police have registered a case and launched an investigation against the owner of a Facebook account for allegedly circulating a fake post using the photograph and name of Congress leader and Kannur MP K. Sudhakaran.
The case was registered against Rajeev P.R. Rajeev, the owner of a Facebook account bearing the same name. The post allegedly gave the impression that Mr. Sudhakaran had said Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan should be removed from office immediately, failing which the situation would reach a stage where people would throw rotten eggs at him.
According to the FIR, the fabricated post was circulated in a manner suggesting that Mr. Sudhakaran himself had made the statement. The police said the alleged act was intended to insult and defame the MP and create unrest among the public and Congress workers.
