Case registered against Pondicherry Municipality staff for demanding bribe

A case has been registered against an employee of the Pondicherry Municipality by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption unit of the Puducherry Police for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹10,000.
The accused has been identified as Alexander, a bill collector with the Revenue Office of the Municipality. A case has been registered under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 based on a complaint alleging that the officer demanded a bribe of ₹10,000 for issuing a trade licence, a release here said.
The complainant Ranjith, Manager of Lakshmi Krishna Naturals Cosmetic, had filed an application to obtain a trade licence for his company’s Puducherry branch. The officer allegedly demanded the bribe for issuing the licence, the release said.
