Carlos Alcaraz overtakes one of Andy Murray’s career records after winning the Japan Open title

Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz won the Japan Open, marking his 27th career title and 10th ATP 500 victory. This win moves him ahead of Andy Murray in the all-time list of ATP 500 titles, trailing only the 'Big Three'.
Why it matters
Alcaraz's continued dominance at age 23 solidifies his position as a leading figure in professional tennis and a potential future record-breaker.
Carlos Alcaraz has already returned to winning ways after claiming the title at the Japan Open in Tokyo.
Shortly after coming back from a five-month break because of a wrist injury, Alcaraz beat Jiri Lehecka 7-6(7-4), 6-4 to lift the trophy at the ATP 500 tournament. It represents his third title of the 2026 season, and the 27th title of his sensational career so far.
The success, which follows titles at the Australian Open and Doha this year, has also helped the Spaniard overtake a career record from tennis legend Andy Murray . In fact, he is now behind only the iconic Big Three in the list for the most ATP 500 titles claimed of all time after his Japan Open glory.
