Carinity Urges Dialogue During Dementia Action Week

Carinity is using National Dementia Action Week to encourage community support and proactive care planning for those affected by dementia. The organization highlights the importance of considering respite care and professional residential options to prevent carer burnout.
Why it matters
As dementia rates rise, understanding the balance between home-based care and professional support is critical for the well-being of both patients and their families.
Dementia is the leading cause of death in Australia - but we're not talking about dementia anywhere near enough.
Dementia isn't a normal part of ageing; it can affect anyone. Dementia doesn't just impact the person living with the condition; it also impacts their carers, friends, family and wider social network.
This National Dementia Action Week (21-27 September), Carinity is encouraging people in the community to reach out and reconnect to someone impacted by dementia.
Caring for a loved one living with dementia can be challenging. As a degenerative disease, it's progression can often bring with it new and unexpected changes in symptoms and behaviour.
For many families, changes forced by dementia symptoms or diagnosis are beyond what they're able to safely manage at home.
