A car was destroyed by a fire in Virudhunagar district with no reported casualties. Separately, a 27-year-old man was murdered by an armed gang in a distinct incident in the same region.

A private car, parked in front of a dwelling suddenly caught fire in the early hours of Saturday and was gutted. Police said that Dinesh Kumar lives in T Pacheri near Tiruchuli in Virudhunagar district. It is said that he had parked his car on Friday night in front of his residence as usual and went to bed. At around 3 a.m., a spark from the vehicle led to a fire. The neighbours alerted the fire and rescue services personnel, who arrived and put out the fire. Tiruchuli police are investigating.
