Capcom’s Original Icon Is Back in the Spotlight with Mega Man: Dual Override

Capcom is set to release Mega Man: Dual Override in 2027 to celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary. The game returns to the series' classic 2D roots while introducing new checkpoint-based sub-levels to improve player progression.
Why it matters
The revival of a legacy franchise like Mega Man demonstrates the enduring value of classic gaming intellectual property and the industry's focus on nostalgia-driven development.
Not counting remasters and collections, there hasn't been a new Mega Man game since 2018's Mega Man 11 , despite the long-running Capcom franchise being an industry icon since the '80s. Just in time for the series' 40th anniversary in 2027, the new mainline game Mega Man: Dual Override is coming to virtually every major gaming platform currently available to commemorate the occasion while teaming up the Blue Bomber with the Proto Man for a new adventure against a whole host of formidable Robot Masters. We got a chance to play an early preview build of Mega Man: Dual Override at Tokyo Game Show 2026 and talk to the creative team behind Mega Man's eagerly anticipated return to a video game platform near you.
