Cancer Research Malaysia’s MeMoSA brings oral cancer screening closer to underserved communities

From telemedicine to AI-assisted diagnostics, digital tools are reshaping how healthcare is delivered, with particular relevance in rural and underserved communities where access to specialised medical services remains limited.

One example is MeMoSA® (Mobile Mouth Screening Anywhere), a digital platform developed by Cancer Research Malaysia that aims to extend oral cancer screening beyond conventional clinical settings, regardless of geography.

Oral cancer remains a significant public health concern, particularly in regions where early detection is hindered by limited access to dental professionals and screening facilities. Traditional screening methods often require physical visits to clinics, which may be hours away for those living in rural areas. This gap in access can delay diagnosis and reduce the chances of successful treatment.
