Calicut varsity authorities to act tough against violation of rules on campuses, hostels

The University of Calicut has issued a strict circular prohibiting the possession of hazardous materials and unauthorized occupants in its hostels and campuses. The move aims to improve campus safety and maintain academic discipline following a student grievance board resolution.
Why it matters
Educational institutions are increasingly tightening administrative controls to mitigate risks and ensure campus security.
The authorities at the University of Calicut (CU) are planning to strictly enforce rules and regulations to avoid untoward incidents in affiliated colleges and on its main campus at Tenhipalam in Malappuram district.
A recent circular brought out by K. Fazalurahman, Dean, Students’ Welfare, says that the possession, storage or use of explosives, inflammable substances or any other hazardous materials on the university campus, affiliated colleges, or in hostels are strictly prohibited. “Legal proceedings shall be initiated against any person found violating this provision, in addition to disciplinary action under the applicable rules,” the circular says.
