Bye-bye Budd: Long-serving plant grower in Blackburn Hamlet pulling up roots
Budd Gardens, a family-owned gardening business in Blackburn Hamlet, is closing after over 100 years of operation. The owners have decided to sell the property to pursue retirement, marking the end of a local institution.

Budd Gardens shared the news with customers on the Innes Road business's Facebook page on Tuesday.
"This is a big moment for our family and we want to share it with the community that has supported us for generations," according to the post . "After over 100 years rooted here in Blackburn Hamlet, the Budd Gardens property is officially for sale."
"This decision isn’t about the business slowing down — it’s simply time for retirement," the post went on to say.
Bob Presland, a family friend who grew up with company director Don Budd, and EP Power, the president of the Gloucester Horticultural Society, said Budd Gardens has meant a lot to people in the area.
"I mean, it's an institution.… Everybody's gotten something from [them]," Power said. "They're fabulous around their hostas and other perennials. They're an icon."
