NAGOYA, Japan (AP) — The Asian Games open Saturday in Nagoya, Japan, and are often identified as the second most important multisports event after the Summer Olympic Games.
They date from the first edition in 1951 in New Delhi, India, and were last held in 2023 in Hangzhou, China . Those games were delayed a year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous games were in 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and this is Japan's third time as the host.
