A 26-year-old businessman has been charged with assaulting a police officer who was attempting to arrest him at Kajja Market in Kampala.

Ssenyange Mugaga, alias Reference, appeared before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Principal Magistrate Jalia Basajjabalaba, and denied the charge.

The prosecution alleges that on October 2, 2026, at Kajja Market in Central Division, Kampala, Mr Mugaga assaulted No. 72244 Police Constable Gerald Isabirye while the officer was acting in the execution of his duty.

Mugaga has been charged under Section 221(b) of the Penal Code Act.

Prosecutor Dianne Hope Masawi told court that investigations into the allegations were still incomplete and asked for more time to complete the inquiries.

The court subsequently remanded Mugaga until October 20, when he is expected to return for further proceedings.
