Businessman, accountant drown as SUV falls into pond near Coimbatore

Two persons from Tiruppur drowned after the sports utility vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in fell into a pond near Karumathampatti in Coimbatore district on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as V. Senniyappan (56), a resident of 63-Velampalayam in Tiruppur and owner of Murugan Blue Metal, and his friend and a relative N. Padmanabhan (66), a resident of the same locality and an accountant at Velmurugan Blue Metal.
Police said the accident occurred around 8.30 p.m. when Senniyappan and Padmanabhan were returning from Semmandampalayam. Senniyappan, who was driving the SUV, lost control of the vehicle on the road along the side of Semmandampalayam pond, and the car plunged into the pond, with the two occupants trapped inside it.
