Building owner, organiser booked for negligence leading to student’s death

The Mangaluru South police have booked building owner Parikshit Rai and programme organiser Dinakar Shetty, an advocate, for negligence leading to the death of a student and injuries to four others, following the collapse of a portion of a parapet wall at Rama Lakshmi Narayan Convention Hall in Yemmekere, Mangaluru, on Saturday afternoon.

A large number of students had gathered in front of the convention hall where Dinakar Shetty had organised the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected office-bearers of the All College Students Association on Saturday afternoon. Some students climbed up to the first floor of the convention hall to see the rally of office-bearers leading to the hall. As the rally neared the hall, a few students, who were leaning against the parapet wall, fell down along with a portion of the wall. Second-year PU student Moideen Shammas and four others standing below were injured.
