BU staff association to launch sit-in on Sept. 7 against ‘unauthorised’ deductions from pay

Bharathiar University Employees’ Welfare Association announced that it would launch a sit-in on September 7 against the university’s administration’s “unauthorised” deductions from the employees’ salaries for July and August, purportedly towards Employees’ State Insurance.

In a petition to the university administration, the association said amounts ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹3,000 were deducted from the July salaries of about 450 employees. When they flagged the matter, the university promised to refund the amount. It, however, deducted ₹500 again from the August salaries of the employees.

The university administration is learnt to have deducted the amounts as employee contributions towards the Employees’ State Insurance for the duration between November 2019 and March 2025.
