BSP is my family: Mayawati's nephew Akash Anand seeks another chance after expulsion

Akash Anand, the nephew of BSP leader Mayawati, has publicly appealed for reinstatement into the Bahujan Samaj Party following his expulsion last month. He denied rumors of joining other political parties, reaffirming his loyalty to his aunt and the party's mission.
Why it matters
The internal dynamics of the BSP are significant for regional politics in Uttar Pradesh and the broader Dalit political movement in India.
A month after being expelled from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) , Akash Anand on Friday (October 2, 2026) dismissed rumours that he would join another outfit and appealed to his aunt Mayawati for "an opportunity" to serve the party again.
In a post on X in Hindi, Akash Anand referred to Ms. Mayawati as ' buaa maa ' and described her as his political guru and inspiration.
This was Mr. Anand’s first public reaction after Ms. Mayawati removed him as the BSP’s national coordinator and then relieved him from the party on September 10, 2026. His remarks came after several senior leaders indicated that Anand could join their parties if he wanted to.
