BRS, BJP trying to gain political mileage from drought: Komatireddy

Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy criticized the BRS and BJP for allegedly politicizing the state's drought-induced power crisis. He defended the Congress government's efforts to stabilize power supply and highlighted ongoing welfare programs.
Why it matters
The statement reflects the intense political rivalry in Telangana, where energy security and welfare distribution are central to electoral narratives.
Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Friday accused the previous BRS government of misleading people with claims of providing uninterrupted 24-hour free electricity and asserted that the Congress government was committed to ensuring reliable power supply under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
Speaking to reporters at Indira Bhavan in Nalgonda, the Minister said power demand in Telangana had risen to nearly 20,000 MW due to drought conditions and increased dependence on borewells for agriculture. He alleged that while people were facing hardships because of the drought, leaders of the BRS and BJP were trying to derive political mileage from the situation.
Mr. Reddy said the Congress government had completed the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant and was utilising all available resources, including support from Coal India, to strengthen power generation and ensure uninterrupted supply in the future.
