They signed five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward on Tuesday to a two-year extension through 2029 worth $62.2 million, including $52.3 million guaranteed, a league source told cleveland.com.
It came on the same day that veterans reported to training camp.
The new money makes him the highest paid cornerback in the NFL for the second time in his career, this time at an average of $31.1 million. It tops the Rams’ Trent McDuffie, who signed a four-year deal worth $31 million after being traded to Los Angeles by the Chiefs in March.
Ward had two years left on his contract at $20.1 million a year.
