Why it matters
This is a significant result in the Major League Baseball postseason, impacting the trajectory of the NLDS.
William Contreras hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers held on for dear life on the pitching front to survive a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres in Game 1 of the National League Division Series on Oct. 3.
Contreras hit a two-out, full-count pitch from one of baseball's best relievers, San Diego's Adrian Morejón, out to right center and spotted the Brewers their first lead of the game on a night where flamethrowing starter Jacob Misiorowski was limited to just four innings of laborious work.
Trevor Megill secured a four-out save, including a three-pitch strikeout of Fernando Tatis Jr. with runners at the corners and two outs in the eighth.
