Keane Lewis-Potter opened the scoring after excellent play, before Vitaly Janelt doubled Brentford's advantage.
Things got even better at the start of the second-half when Michael Kayode finished from close range and send the Gtech in to ecstasy.
The Bees were one goal away from going top of the Premier League table, and they had a glorious opportunity to do so.
Kevin Schade was fouled by Rodrigo Bentancur inside the penalty area, but Igor Thiago hit a post from the resulting spot-kick.
