Police in Otuke District are investigating the circumstances under which a 15-year-old boy identified as Denis Okello was on Friday evening shot dead during a scuffle between the police and a suspected youth gang in Te-Oboke Cell, Oget Ward, Otuke Town Council.
North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, told this publication that the police fired live bullets to disperse a group of rowdy youth, commonly known as ‘’Owuwuk’’, who were mobilising to attack members of the public during a Saturday market day at Te-Oboke Cell.
According to Mr Okema, police had received concerns from the members of the community regarding an increase in motorcycle thefts and robberies within Otuke District.
Following these concerns, police officers staged an intelligence-led disruptive operation in the area commanded by the officer in charge of Otuke Police Station on Friday, October 23, at around 8 pm.
