Botswana strengthens nuclear regulatory framework

from ODIRILE TOTENG in Gaborone, Botswana Botswana Bureau GABORONE , (CAJ News) – BOTSWANA intends to commence construction of a dedicated facility for disused radioactive sources and equip ports of entry with radioactive border detection systems.
This is part of a commitment to radiation safety and nuclear security.
David Tshere, Minister of Communications and Innovation, disclosed the plans while addressing delegates at the ongoing International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conference in Vienna, Austria.
He said the construction of a dedicated facility for disused radioactive sources was currently at the pre-construction stage.
Another port of entry will be equipped with radioactive border detection systems as a continuation of an ongoing rollout.
