Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) has disclosed that Bono Region recorded 1,145 new HIV infections between January and May 2026.
The Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Technical Coordinator of the GAC, Ahmed Ibrahim Bambilla, said the infections were spreading rapidly among vulnerable male and female populations in the region.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani on Monday July 13, Mr Bambilla said the Commission was distributing Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) as part of efforts to reduce the spread of HIV.
He explained that PrEP is an effective medication that helps protect people, particularly those at high risk of contracting HIV, from acquiring the virus.
