'Bomb them like never before': Trump says 'left instructions' to strike Iran if assassinated
Former President Donald Trump claims he has issued standing orders for a massive military response against Iran should they attempt to assassinate him. The statement follows reports of Israeli intelligence regarding a specific Iranian plot, though US officials have not independently verified the threat.
Why it matters
The rhetoric highlights ongoing geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran and the potential for rapid military escalation based on intelligence reports.
US president Donald Trump on Friday said he has "left instructions" for the United States to respond with overwhelming military force if Iran were to successfully assassinate him.“I’ve been on their list for a long time. That’s what we’re dealing with,” Trump told The New York Post. “The only thing is, I’ve left instructions — if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before,” he added. Asked about reports that Israel had shared intelligence on a new Iranian plot to assassinate him, Trump dismissed the claim, telling The New York Post, "no, no. Israel came up with nothing."The president added that Iran has wanted him dead for years.
