Residents of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region have thrown their support behind the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Task Force, popularly known as the Black Maria, citing improved peace and security in the municipality.
The residents, together with the Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy for Peace and Inclusive Communities (NAPAIC Ghana), staged a peaceful march through the principal streets of Bolgatanga, calling on the IGP to maintain the task force in the region.
Carrying placards in support of the Ghana Police Service, the demonstrators—made up of traders, mechanics, smock weavers, dressmakers and food vendors—said the continued presence of the unit was crucial in tackling armed robbery and other criminal activities.
Secretary of NAPAIC Ghana, Zuma Baba Yaro, said the presence of the task force had significantly improved security and restored public confidence.
