'Black Emergency' imposed in the country: AAP
The Aam Aadmi Party has accused the Indian central government of imposing a 'black emergency' following the detention of protesters and the closure of metro stations in Delhi. The protests were organized to demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner over allegations of vote theft.
Why it matters
Political tensions regarding election integrity and the right to protest are central to the health of democratic institutions.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday (October 10, 2026) accused the BJP-led central government of imposing a "black emergency" in the country, following the detention by the police of several protesters coming to Jantar Mantar to join the protests called by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and various youth organisations.
AAP MLA Gopal Rai said the party shut down metro stations and cancelled trains only to protect one person.

"Instead of removing CEC Gyanesh Kumar, the Centre has declared a black emergency in the country. Today, to protect Kumar, you have turned Delhi into a cantonment. But remember this, it does not matter how much force you push in, this movement will not be suppressed," Mr. Rai told reporters.
