Black Caps v India: Freak training accident gifts Tim Seifert chance to make ODI World Cup claim

New Zealand cricketer Tim Seifert has been called up for the ODI series against India following a training injury to Devon Conway. Seifert aims to use this opportunity to secure a spot in the upcoming ODI World Cup squad.
Why it matters
Professional sports roster changes significantly impact team performance and individual career trajectories in international cricket.
While no cricketer ever wants to see a teammate go down injured, a freak training accident has opened a door that Black Cap Tim Seifert is perfectly positioned to walk through.
On Tuesday, a nasty collision in training with Matt Henry at Eden Park left Devon Conway ruled out of the first of five one-day internationals, after the 35-year-old was taken to hospital to be assessed.
And with no other top-order players available, given Rachin Ravindra’s continued absence after a shoulder injury on a commercial shoot, Seifert is almost certain to step in at the top of the order alongside one of Henry Nicholls or Will Young.
