BJP to launch protests in Keralam to counter Congress protests demanding resignation of Gyanesh Kumar

The BJP in Kerala has announced plans to launch state-wide protests to counter the Congress-led opposition's demands for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. The BJP also criticized the current state government's performance and accused the opposition of undermining constitutional bodies.
Why it matters
This reflects the intensifying political polarization in Kerala and the broader national debate regarding the independence of election oversight bodies.
A core committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Thursday decided to launch protests in Keralam to counter the ongoing protests of the Congress-led Opposition demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voters’ lists.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, BJP State vice-president M.T. Ramesh demanded Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan to resign from his post if he was sincere to the cause of the protest in Delhi that he took part in.
“Why are they selectively questioning the election results in various States after the SIR? If all the election results are questionable according to them, does it not apply to the Assembly election results in Kerala? The BJP will organise protests both inside and outside the Assembly demanding the resignation of the CM as well as the entire government,” he said.
