BJP stages protest in Shivamogga against State government

The Shivamogga district unit of the BJP staged a protest here on Thursday, alleging that the State Government under Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had gone bankrupt, with no funds left for welfare schemes.

Led by district president N.K. Jagadish, party workers gathered at T. Seenappa Shetti Circle (Gopi Circle) and raised slogans against the Chief Minister and the Congress government. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Jagadish said the government was left with no money to compensate farmers affected by the drought, and that the State’s total borrowings had risen alarmingly. He said the Finance Department had written to the State government stating that there were no funds available for any new schemes.
