BJP seeks crop loan waiver, ₹50,000-an-acre aid for farmers

Telangana BJP has demanded that the State government immediately convene a meeting of the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) to ensure a complete waiver of crop loans taken by farmers during the current agricultural season and bank officials should be told not to approach farmers for loan repayments.
Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar said the government should provide compensation of ₹50,000 per cultivated acre to farmers who suffered monsoon crop losses and called for implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) before the commencement of the upcoming Rabi season, with the government bearing the entire premium cost.
He warned that government has been given time until October 21 to respond, failing which the BJP would organise a massive “Farmers’ March” from Adilabad to Hyderabad beginning October 22.
