BJP MP Kangana Ranaut moves Delhi HC against AI-generated, obscene content

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut and actor Vijay Deverakonda have approached the Delhi High Court to seek protection against the unauthorized use of their likenesses in AI-generated and obscene content. The court has issued summons to defendants, continuing a trend of celebrities seeking legal safeguards for their personality rights.
Why it matters
The case underscores the growing legal challenges surrounding AI-generated deepfakes and the protection of individual publicity rights in the digital age.
Actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut approached the Delhi High Court on Thursday (October 8, 2026) seeking the removal of obscene and AI-generated content allegedly circulated about her online.
Justice Vikas Mahajan issued summons to the parties named as defendants in Ms. Ranaut’s plea, which seeks protection of her personality and publicity rights. The court indicated that it would consider passing an interim order in the matter.
The court also issued summons in a separate personality rights case filed by Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda and said an interim order would be considered in his case as well.
Mr. Deverakonda’s counsel alleged that third parties had commercially exploited the actor’s identity without authorisation, including by selling merchandise featuring elements associated with his persona. The counsel also pointed to AI-generated social media posts, impersonation, false endorsements and the use of abusive language.
