Senior BJP leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Saturday accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of prioritising political engagements in New Delhi over tackling the drought situation in Telangana.
Claiming that Mr. Revanth Reddy had visited Delhi around 79 times since taking office in December 2023, he said the State needed a Chief Minister focused on addressing farmers’ concerns rather than frequent trips to the national capital.
Mr. Narayana Reddy said 18 of Telangana’s 33 districts had received deficient rainfall during the monsoon. Preliminary government assessments had identified 320 mandals across 18 districts as facing severe drought conditions, while the Chief Minister’s Office had separately cited drought-like conditions in 235 mandals.
He accused the Congress government of failing to prepare for the situation despite early warnings about the impact of El Niño and demanded an action plan to address farmers’ distress.
