Why it matters
Strengthening local-level political organization is a key indicator of a party's electoral strategy and its efforts to expand influence in regional governance.
The BJP has stepped up preparations for the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh by constituting a special committee to oversee the election management, organisational coordination and campaign strategy across the State.
Announcing the initiative on Wednesday, its State president P.V.N. Madhav said the party accorded top priority to the elections and was strengthening its organisational network down to the grassroots level.
“As part of the strategy, the State has been divided into four zones — North Andhra, Godavari, Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, with senior leaders assigned responsibility for each. The committee will supervise election planning, organisational coordination, field-level activities, candidate selection and continuous engagement with the party workers,” he said.
