A BJP district functionary sustained severe injuries on Friday after he was hacked with a sickle outside the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital.

The victim, Muthusamy, 53, of Mullai Nagar in Soorankottai Colony, is the BJP District vice president. According to police, Muthusamy had previously assisted 49-year-old Senthoor Pandi of M. Karisalkulam near Sayalkudi in securing a job abroad back in 2025.

They revealed that Senthoor Pandi contacted Muthusamy by phone on Friday, claiming his daughter had been admitted to the government hospital for an illness and requesting a meeting. When Muthusamy arrived at the hospital premises in the afternoon, a verbal altercation broke out between them.

During the heated exchange, Senthoor Pandi drew a hidden sickle and slashed Muthusamy’s left hand, inflicting bleeding injuries.
