BJP calls for Centre’s intervention in State’s move on PRC

State BJP Executive member Mahesh Reddy Mudnal has objected to the State government’s notification introducing the Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) and said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should interfere and examine the State’s move.
Addressing a press conference in Yadgir on Saturday, Mr. Mudnal said that the notification by the State government raises serious constitutional, legal and national security concerns.
Referring to a letter by Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje to Mr. Shah on July 8, Mr. Mudnal said that the notification is alarming from the perspective of national security and is violative of Article 14 of the Constitution.
By creating a class of individuals designated as “permanent residents”, the State government is effectively conferring a distinct legal recognition that has no sanction under the Constitution, he said.
