The BJP has accused Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of misconduct toward female police personnel during a recent protest. The party released video clips to support their claims of inappropriate behavior and anarchy, while criticizing the Congress party's political strategy.
Why it matters
This reflects the intensifying political polarization and the use of social media and video evidence in Indian political discourse to shape public opinion.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday (October 8, 2026) questioned the conduct of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra with women police personnel during Wednesday’s protest against alleged “vote theft” and the actions of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
At a press conference, the BJP showed video clips of alleged incidents, claiming that they exposed the Congress’ “frustration and the arrogance of privileged dynastic politics”. BJP spokesperson Sidharth Yadav accused Mr. Gandhi of “inappropriately touching” one policewoman and Ms. Vadra of “elbowing” another.
“Rahul Gandhi has said that there are 47 FIRs against him, but wearing an FIR relating to atrocities against a woman as a medal — only Rahul Gandhi can do this in this country," he said.
