Bitcoin hits highest level in 3 months before pulling back as altcoins consolidate

Bitcoin reached a three-month high near $80,000 before experiencing a slight pullback as market focus remains heavily concentrated on the leading cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, altcoins have seen minor declines, and the broader market continues to show a divergence between crypto assets and traditional equity indices like the Nasdaq 100.
Why it matters
The current market dominance of Bitcoin over altcoins, coupled with its decoupling from traditional tech stocks, signals a shift in investor sentiment and risk appetite within the digital asset ecosystem.
The broader market structure remains constructive with gold adding 0.2% and silver is up more than 2% on Friday. Nasdaq 100 index futures are down 0.3%, extending a divergence that has been evident since the U.S. Treasury's bond buyback announcement on Aug. 19. Since then, BTC has gained roughly 26%.
Altcoins are lower across the board since midnight, with most tokens giving back between 2% and 3% as the market's focus stays on bitcoin. The Altcoin Season index sits at 34/100, well within bitcoin-dominated territory.
