Bitcoin extends bounce above $82,000 as stocks rebound, DeFi tokens lead altcoin gains

Bitcoin prices remain stable above $82,000 as broader markets rebound following a difficult week for tech stocks. DeFi tokens and specific altcoins like ARB and PUMP saw notable gains, outperforming the broader crypto market.
Why it matters
The market movement reflects a broader recovery in risk assets and specific interest in decentralized finance protocols despite macroeconomic headwinds.
Altcoins outpaced the largest cryptocurrency, with ether ETH $2,398.37 adding 0.75% to near $2,430 and the CoinDesk 80 (CD80) gaining 0.9%, triple the 0.35% rise in the bitcoin-heavy CoinDesk 5 (CD5). DeFi led the CoinDesk benchmarks with a 0.81% gain, with all six members of the DFX sector index higher.
The rebound follows a rough week for U.S. tech. The Nasdaq fell 4.5% in its worst weekly decline since June as worries over AI spending and debt hit stocks such as CoreWeave (CRWV), which fell 25%. On Monday, Nasdaq 100 futures advanced more than 1% alongside gains in Asian stocks after China’s third-quarter GDP growth of 4.5% beat expectations and oil prices eased, with earnings from Meta Platforms META $705.32 · Market Closed and Tesla TSLA $368.04 · Market Closed due this week.
